TIPS ON HOW TO AVOID FLASH DRIVE VIRUS INFECTION MARK 1

Here are some tips on how to avoid getting virus infection on your flash drive(usb):

*Avoid using folders if possible. Because folders are the best hiding place for viruses.
*If possible, scan the files using a virus scanner before storing it on your flash drive.


*Next, disable autorun.inf on your usb. For those who do not know, autorun.inf is the simple program that shows or enables autoplay on a certain device. Be it CD/USB/DVD or any other storage devices.
Why disable autorun? Because autorun also runs some of the viruses stored on your usb. And when the virus is run(execute), it will do much more damage than the usual dormant state of a computer virus. So better disable it. The only consequence of this is that, there will be no more autoplay capabilities on your flash drive. Meaning, you will only have to manually open the files when you insert a flash drive on a computer.

Here are some steps on how to disable autorun on your usb:
1. go to run and type cmd to open the command prompt
2. type the drive name of your flash drive followed by :
ex. H: and press enter
> this will bring you to your flash drives root directory
3. type "attrib -h -r -s autorun.inf" to remove hiddden, read-only and system attribute to the autorun.inf located in your flash drive. THis will enable you to access and do anything to the file, in our case the autorun.inf.
4. type "del autorun.inf" -deleting the file *note: make sure you are in your flash drive's root directory

5. autorun.inf should no longer exist in your flash drive
* deleting autorun.inf means the flash drive will not show you immediately the contents of your drive once inserted"
* to open drive, you have to click on it manually on my computer or explorer.

*For the contingency measures:
* the idea is that lots of usb flash drives virus strains make use of autorun.inf to trigger the virus they are contained with, so to avoid such
open your usb drive and create a FOLDER named autorun.inf
* be sure to create a folder, not a file.
the virus will not be able to create or overwrite an autorun.inf file because a similar name would exist or to put it simply, it's like faking the virus that a usb drive isn't there.
set attrib +h +r +s autorun.inf to prevent it from being deleted accidentally.
* if you're going to format your usb, make sure to do the same process again after formatting.

* with regards to the other virus strains that isn't triggerd by autorun.inf , you just have to rely it to your antivirus software.
*those infected with CMIII virus, you have to delete all autorun.inf and svchost files in your computer, if needed replace them from ur dumped i386.
